You take the kids to Niagara Falls for a couple of days at the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark over March Break.
As such, your schedule doesn't really permit any time for a photography walk about, not to mention the fact that you're already exhausted from driving, running around all day with the kids, and getting no sleep at night due to over-caffeination.
So what is a photographer to do?
Well, luckily you remembered to pack your trusty little
Canon SX50, and the view from your hotel room on the 19th floor offers some interesting sights. Sure, purists will tell you that you can't shoot photos through glass and that your technique is all bad, but hey! You're having fun, and you actually got some pretty interesting shots.
The first few shots are in the evening, so the ISO is a little higher. The latter few are the following day in daylight, and the ISO is lower (more detail, less noise).
The ferris wheel in Niagara Falls is a familiar landmark. The angle from the 19th floor of the Sheraton through the ultra zoom lens of the
SX50 makes for a different view of it than you might be used to.
Castle Dracula on the Niagara Falls strip isn't really visible from 19 floors up, but the sign is, and this isn't even close to the far end of the
Canon SX50's zoom range.
Upside down house? That's my guess anyways.
A view of the rooftops behind the Sheraton. I always find the hvac units interesting. My own personal quirk I guess. :-)
A closer shot of those very interesting HVAC units. :-)
The Beer Garden looked kinda sad surrounded by snow with no visitors, but what set of photos from the CANADIAN side of the Falls would be complete without Beer? :-)
Louis Tussaud's Waxworks a block away from the Sheraton, courtesy of that big, long, lens on the
SX50.
Another couple of attractions a block away on the same street as Louis Tussaud's Waxworks.
Nothing out of the ordinary here. Just Frankenstein eating a burger.
Didn't go in, so I can't tell you anything about the Great Canadian Midway. Sorry. :-)
The Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum.
A closer view of the Ripley's roof courtesy of the
SX50.
and an EVEN CLOSER view :-)
and of course I needed a close-up of King Kong.
Niagara Falls on the left.
A close-up of some of the towers.
The main attraction.
Interesting looking derelict buildings along the Falls.
Ice.
What's this? Dinosaurs at the Falls!!!
A construction crane working that caught my eye.
The
Canon SX50 remains my favorite walk-about point and shoot, and it's pretty good from the hotel room window too!
To be clear, I have no illusions of winning any photo awards with my 19th floor, through-the-window shots, but they were fun to do and some are actually kinda interesting (at least I think so :-)
All images were shot in RAW and processed in
Adobe Lightroom 5.
